農曆新年慶祝 Chinese New Year Celebration
The annual Chinese New Year celebration in the city organised by Chinese Association of Southampton and Southampton City council will take place from 11am this Sunday 6th Feb. at the newly refurbished Guildhall Square.

The event will officially start at 11am at Guildhall Square with the Mayor of Southampton performing the ceremony of ‘dim jing’. This involves dotting the eye of the dragon. It is a symbolic ritual to bring the dragon to life, the eyes of the dragon are painted which helps to ward off evil spirits and welcomes a year of prosperity.
中國新年慶典活動將於上午11點在市政廳廣場舉行，南安普頓市長將為金龍進行“點睛”從而正式宣佈典禮開始。點睛活動象徵著給金龍帶來生命，從而驅除鬼邪，帶來一年的繁榮。
This will be followed by a series of superb traditional Chinese cultural performances including:
• Dragon and lion dance by waterside Lion Dance Club
• Firecrackers
• Chinese folk dance by the Phoenix Art Group of the Chinese Association of Southampton
• Chinese Song by Southampton Young Singers West
• Martial Art Display By WuTan Martial Art Club

The dragon parade will start from Guildhall Square at approximately 12.30pm moving on through the City Centre to the Bargate.

The Chinese Market
中國新年商品市場
Don’t miss our ever-popular Chinese New Year Market which will once again be situated in Above Bar Precinct in the heart of Southampton City Centre. Open Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th February, it will feature an array of stalls with Chinese food and delicacies, gifts, jewellery, arts and crafts. There will be demonstrations of traditional Chinese cooking, crafts, calligraphy, paper cutting and much more. For details see www.southamptoncitycentre.co.uk
