Community Safety Message – Chinese New Year 2026

Dear members of the Chinese community,

As we approach Chinese New Year, we want to offer our warmest wishes and to reassure you about the work your local policing team is doing to keep the community safe — especially in the Portswood area, where we know some recent incidents have caused understandable concern.

Your safety is our priority. We have increased visibility and patrols in key locations around Portswood, including the High Street, student areas, and transport routes. Our officers are actively engaging with local businesses, students, residents, and community groups to ensure that everyone feels supported and confident when out and about.

What we are doing

Targeted patrols in the areas where concerns were raised.
Close partnership working with the University, local councils, and community organisations.
Rapid response to reported incidents and ongoing investigations to prevent further harm.
Community engagement officers available to listen to concerns and provide advice.

How you can stay safe

Stay in well‑lit, busy areas, especially at night.
Walk with friends where possible, particularly during evening celebrations.
Keep your phone charged and let someone know your plans.
Report anything suspicious immediately via 999 in an emergency or 101/online for non‑emergencies.
If you feel unsafe at any time, please approach one of our officers on patrol — we are here to help.

如遇緊急情況請立即撥打 999；非緊急情況請撥打 101 或透過網上報案。
如您在任何時候感到不安全，請主動聯絡巡邏警員——我們隨時為您提供協助。
